So far so good…

We are tucked away in the Launch Pad currently – no nurses in sight – just Amy, me and the Benjamin. Before we left our pod, we walked around a bit to visit other nurses and see all the spots Ben has stayed in over the last 6 months. It’s funny how different it is to hold and carry a baby with no wires or IVs – you can go anywhere you want!

The launch pad is nice – it’s like a budget hotel room with a big code blue button that will send a dozen medical staff in here in seconds. We even got a visit from Arleth (a NICU mom who shared our pod for a long time) and her family. It was really sweet of them to visit and wish us well. We hope her little one is next to leave.

Benjamin is behaving so far – he likes being held and has been super cute. I hope he sleeps some tonight because we are both exhausted after not being able to sleep at all last night due to excitement. Tomorrow is big day and it would help to get some sleep.

"Where did the nurses go? Why is it so quiet in here?"

Also tomorrow Cayman finally gets to meet Benjamin! Amy refuses to let me get a saddle for Benjamin to ride on him with, but I know they will still be fast friends.

  1. Happy and excited for you.

  2. Eeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!! xoxo

  3. Wow, he’s a big boy! I’m so excited that he’s going home! Let’s have a play date!

  4. πŸ™‚ Seeing him in Amy’s arms …wow you can really see how chunky he is! I’m happy that he is doing well and that you get to hold him with no wires attached! Once you are ALL home I’m sure it’s going to feel complete πŸ™‚ (Momm, Dad, Baby & Pet) Wishing you great JuJu for you three….I’m so excited for ya! lol

  5. Mom and Baby look so natural and right together just sitting there alone with no wires or nurses. May this be the beginning of a long and happy and HEALTHY life for the three of you. Don’t worry about not getting the saddle–just get a sled and have Cayman pull Ben on the sled just like Sir Lancelot did for Andrew many years ago. It’s time for FUN for your family–enjoy it! XOXOXOXXOXOXOXX

  6. A wireless baby!! Hooray!

Joe and Amy, I really hope that you guys continue to blog even after Benjamin has relocated to a more permanent place of residence… (not jinxing!!!!) I’ve so enjoyed following his story, laughing and crying a little with the ups and downs but always enjoying the hope and excitement that Benjamin brings! We pray for your family every day and seeing the progress he has made is inspiring! Hopefully the next time we are all at Wrightsville Beach we can have another reunion and Ben, Jack and Kaia can have a playdate in the sand! Can’t wait to hear about the night!!

(PS I think the first night flying solo with a baby should always include a giant button where nurses and professional baby wranglers can come running at a moment’s notice…)

  7. Yes! Yes! Yes! He looks great! Hoping for a successful launch! C’mon Benjamin, so looking forward for you to come home!

  8. OMG! He looks huge while being held by Amy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait to get my hands on him.

  9. I think he looks a little abnormally large in the picture- it’s a weird angle. I promise he’s still relatively tiny!

The night went well- I think we all actually slept a little too, though at entirely different times πŸ™‚ I know I had a nice, solid sleep from 7-9am once Joe was up! The rest was pretty intermittent.

We’re home now and settling in okay, I think πŸ˜‰
